Why Use Gamification in eLearning
Let’s tie two awesome things together: learning and playing games. Sounds like a winner, right? (Yes.)
And believe it or not, we’ve been doing this naturally since our grade-school days. Whether it was playing sports in PE (Physical Education) or joining Chess Club for analytical gaming, we learned much easier when we were into it.
The Gamification of eLearning
Rather than reading, memorizing, and then testing on a concept only to forget it forever, we’re coming out with alternative ways to learn. The gamification of eLearning is one of them. In fact, we have a 23-second sample video to show you at the end of this article. Let’s see what you know about the colors in Spanish…
Who Does the Gamification of Online Learning Help?
Well, we’re tempted to say everyone, of course. Who doesn’t like games? But we know we’re all different and some people may not want to learn by playing a game. So instead, we’ll let you in on it: because it’s an action, it may benefit kinesthetic learners the most. A big bonus is that it may also help with certain behaviors.
How Can the Gamification of Online Learning Help with Behaviors?
We’ll give you a quick example:
A behavior can be changed by repeated action. If you’re giving your learner a kinesthetic way to learn, you’re creating an action. The more they repeat this action, the more whatever it is they’re learning solidifies.
A Quick Word About Gamers
Perhaps some have regarded video games as time-consuming pastimes. However, don’t discount your gamers. They may have something to say about how video games have positively affected the way they learn.
If you have a gamer in your organization, ask for their perspective. You could have this person talk to your instructional designers about a fresh view on how games affect learning. They may even offer a tip or two on engagement.

We’ve used an Adobe Captivate template to create this game. Enjoy the video and let’s see if you can guess the colors in Spanish!
