Is Employee Happiness Important to You?
Is the happiness of your employees a fair question right now? You’re probably still trying to sort out your new policies and procedures due to the pandemic. So…is employee happiness as important as simply having work right now?
This is a tough question, so let’s get into it.
Why Are We Talking About Employee Happiness?
If you have a workforce, you’ve probably been on high alert these past few months. Whether work heightened for your industry or slowed down, you’ve been through a crazy time. As you’re trying to sort out your new process, don’t forget your employees. Are they running out of gas? Have you checked in with them?
Some Numbers Pre-Pandemic…
A 2019 workplace learning report done by LinkedIn showed 94% of employees surveyed said they‘d stay with a company longer if there was an investment in learning and development.
This is especially true when it comes to younger workers: Millennials and Gen Z employees consider training as the most significant contributor to their workplace happiness. Without a clear path to skill development, more than one fourth of these younger workers would begin the search for a different job.
The pandemic may have changed this number, but people still long to be engaged and have meaningful work.
Is Your Training Program Helping or Hurting Your Organization?
Here are some pointers to know if your training program is helping your team with workplace happiness:
- Are you showing your employees you have a commitment to them? Investing in your team through continued training shows that you value their contribution to the company’s long-term growth.
- Are you giving your employees a clear path to career advancement? Most of your employees want a career, not a dead-end job. Your training program needs to not only keep your team’s skills up to date, but give them a defined path to reach their career goals.
- Are your training systems set up to last? Having good training systems reduces the stress your team experiences when another member is out. Good training systems can also help your employees see the bigger picture of what they contribute to the company.
