How to Create eLearning for Your Phone or Tablet
This is a really cool topic for us at Miranda Park Learning. Creating something that can be viewed on your phone and tablet is called “Responsive Design.” How do we create it?
Easy answer: By making sure we have the right authoring tool to create responsive design. We use Adobe Captivate. At the end of this blog, you’ll see a sample 35-second video to see it at work.
Do You Need to Create Responsive Design for Your Company?
Great first question. Here are a few tips on how to find out. Ask yourself:
- How does this type of training benefit the company?
- What problem does training employees on a phone or tablet solve?
- Who’s your audience? Even if you had tablets and phones for training, would they prefer to train on a desktop?
- Do you only have laptops or desktops? If so, why create responsive design eLearning?
If you know for sure you’ll need to create eLearning for phones or tablets, then perfect! If you’re not sure, don’t worry. There’s an option.
If You Don’t Create Responsive Design eLearning Now, Can You Change It Later?
We recommend knowing whether you want to make your project responsive off the gate. It makes things easier on your budget (and your eLearning designer). However, if you decide to turn an eLearning module that wasn’t responsive to responsive, you may still be able to do that. Adobe Captivate has features for this type of conversion.
But, at times, you’ll just have to redo your project from scratch to make it responsive.
Why Create eLearning for Phones and Tablets?
We live in a fast world and people don’t always want to be plugged into their computer; they much prefer their phones. Think about it: if you had the chance to take a 5-to-10 minute module on the go, wouldn’t you? If everything, even the quizzes and knowledge checks were included, would you still need to sit at your desk to complete it?
Three reasons People Want eLearning Modules at the Palm of Their Hand
- Easy access to on-the-go learning.
- Micro-learning is catching the eye of many industries. Some industries want their micro-learning on tablets and phones.
- Younger generations entering the workforce are used to being on their phones more than being on a desktop.
Is Traditional Learning Out the Door?
This is a question with a preference toward how different generations have learned before. To our point of view, learning is everlasting and we adapt to the technologies of the time. No need to miss the past. We incorporate what’s worked, look at the present, and keep a pulse on the future. Simple as that.
