Anniversary Blog: Our Team Is Made of Many, Including You
Miranda Park Learning is grateful to have reached a milestone: Today, exactly one year ago, we began writing weekly blogs for you.
Why We Started Writing Blogs on Instructional Design
Simple: We love instructional design and it’s easy for us to talk about. We also knew it would help get our name out there.
The first thing we decided was to make our blogs really free and of service to you. This meant we weren’t going to write blogs that had a “hook” offer at the end. Just plain, good, instructional design advice—to the point and concise.
The Blog’s Reason for Existence
We decided our blog was going to:
- Be meaningful
- Include real processes
- Talk about real apps we use, like Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Captivate
- Have no strings attached
- Be published consistently
If people wanted to hire us because they found the information in our blogs useful, perfect. If not, we hoped they benefited from the information we published, because we did it from the bottom of our hearts.
The Content Had to Be Unique
We wanted the blogs to be unique because we care about not copying anyone else. This meant that each of our blogs had to be run by Copyscape, which is an anti-plagiarism tool we pay for. We did this to gain your trust, and so that if you ever wanted to quote our blog, you knew it came straight from us.
This Instructional Design Blog Had to be Published Consistently
No matter what, it would be published every Thursday. We allowed ourselves one break: Thanksgiving. Other than that, come what may, we would be true to ourselves by keeping our word. Our instructional design blog had to be published consistently.
When We Weren’t the Experts, We Called Our Friends
A couple of times we called on our friends! When people asked us business questions we weren’t the expert in, we enlisted others who knew more. This collaboration was exciting because it felt good to do this with friends. It also felt great to help our friends be visible to others.
We Acknowledged the Artists Who Gave Us Powerful Pictures
This year, we mostly used free pictures. These pictures came from Pexels and Pixabay. Some pictures we even took ourselves. When we did purchase a couple of the pics, they came from Adobe Stock.
And even though we never had to acknowledge the artists, we did it anyway. In this world, we’re all in this together! We wanted to give visibility to the artists and the websites so that if anyone needed to, they could also download those pics.
The Funny SEO Thing That Happened Along the Way
A good entrepreneur will tell you all about SEO and ranking online. It’s true that ranking well is great for business. Well, call us crazy. At one point, we stopped caring too much about SEO and more about the impact we were having on others.
Believe it, we still checked our keywords and made sure we had the proper word count. We know it helped our online visibility. But it became secondary to writing this blog.
In the End, After a Year of Craziness…
Writing this blog on instructional design was one thing we did to stay in the game. Writing it in service to you was one of the best decisions of our time in business. It kept us hopeful. It made us feel like we helped out.
Because at the end of the day, the most important aspect of our business is you. Keeping you in mind was the reason. So, thank you. Thank you for reading. We sincerely appreciate it. Here’s to another year of instructional design words on a page. We hope they help.
